故事发生在中国古代。华家有一双貌美如花的女儿，一个叫若兰（江若琳 饰），一个叫玉荷（刘梓妍 饰），长大后，二人命运不尽相同。若兰女扮男装替父从军，而玉荷则因歌舞艺俱佳被选入后宫。替父从军的若兰命运多舛，而入宫的玉荷因争宠卷入了宫廷阴谋的深渊。战场上的若兰出生入死，与杨俊（陈思成 饰）、赵宇（袁弘 饰）南征北战，结下友谊的同时也留下了欲罢不休的三角恋情。玉荷在宫廷斗争中陷入不能自拔的境地，若兰打算救她出苦海，不料遭玉荷反戈一击，连老父亲也牵连进去。若兰审时度势率大军出征，不料从此走上了不归路，姐妹恩怨造就一段千古传奇……。A film version of a play Fassbinder directed in Hamburg, Clare Booth Luce's "The Women".
