護國公府姜承歡生母病重，姜父以薑母病情要挾嫡長女姜承歡進宮，為護母親被迫奉旨入宮，幫助父親尋找廢太子的聖虎令。新婚夜當晚姜承歡穿上夜行衣混入廢太子賀蘭枕宮殿，尋找聖虎令的下落，卻被廢太子賀蘭枕發現，初次交鋒中得知傳聞中的廢太子身手敏捷，武功高強...。1973年9月8日、『人間革命』のタイトルで東宝と創価学会系のシナノ企画の共同製作で映画化された。1976年にほぼ同じスタッフ・出演者で『続・人間革命』が公開されている。 スタッフ、キャストとも、創価学会との関わりを全く問わずに幅広く集められた（主演の丹波に至っては、学会のイベントでのスピーチで間違って南無阿弥陀仏と念仏を唱え、仰天させたというエピソードを持つ）。そのため、宗教団体が出資参加する映画としては非常に豪華な顔ぶれであり、かなりの娯楽色も盛り込まれている。。Dr James Fox explores how, in the hands of artists, the colours gold, blue and white have stirred our emotions, changed the way we behave and even altered the course of history.
